Faculty Works: Red Mansion Prize Winner

We are pleased to announce that Tristan Barlow our 2011 and 2012 Teaching Assistant has been awarded the Red Mansion Prize and an exhibition of his work is to be held next week.

Established in 2002 The Red Mansion Art Prize promotes artistic exchange between China and the UK. Founded by The Red Mansion Foundation; a not-for- profit organisation which promotes artistic exchange between China and the UK. The Foundation’s mission is to increase knowledge and appreciation of contemporary Chinese art in the UK whilst encouraging mutual cultural understanding.

In 2014 one student was picked from each of seven of the UK’s foremost art colleges: Royal Academy Schools, Royal College of Art, Chelsea College of Art, Central SaintMartins, Slade School of Fine Art, Goldsmiths and The Ruskin School of Art.

During the summer of 2014, the talented winners of the Red Mansion Art Prize travelled to China for one month. They were given studio space and the opportunity to live and work alongside local artists with flights, accommodation and a spending allowance provided for them.

An exhibition of the works produced by the students over this time is being held at the Slade Research Centre from Friday 20th to Friday 27th March.
