2014 alumna Chloe Vallance is currently exhibiting her work as part of a group exhibition at the Fehily Contemporary Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
We invited Chloe to tell us a little more about the shows opening and the work she is exhibiting …
Gallery Director Lisa Fehily and assistant to the Director Bernadette Alibrando asked me to be part of NOW, a group show held at Fehily Contemporary Gallery in Melbourne.
NOW looks at the pieces artists are currently working on in their studios. The idea of the exhibition was to show the public what a group of artists were up at this moment in time.
During the opening celebration Lisa initiated a warm conversation about the artists involved in the show and welcomed artists Kate Shaw, Simon Finn, Brett Graham and myself to talk openly about our artwork and the nature of being an artist. I felt the words spoken by each artist were well received and created something of a bridge for people to approach the artists with questions and comments. It was a wonderful experience to share my work with people so willing to listen and offer their own insights in response.
Journey Home was the title of my artwork included in NOW, a colour pencil drawing on plywood, approximately 45 x 45 cm in scale. The subject is two of my friends travelling, walking, moving, feeling their way through space. The plywood becomes the ground, the sky, it offers a sense of space, an inner and exterior space, a place to play, dance and dream, a vast expanse of warm light, seemly guiding the figures onwards. Shadows drape behind the figures souls allowing their bodies to stand out as they step through a world-within-a-world.
